In the Oven and on the Table

Monday: Baked 2 loaves of Beth Hensperger's "Buttermilk Honey Bread." Leftovers from the weekend for dinner.
Tuesday: Made "Chocolate Meringue Sandwiches." Madhur Jaffrey's "Red Split Lentils with Cumin Seeds" for dinner with plain jasmine rice. (http://www.recipelink.com/ch/2002/october/asweetquartet3.html)
Wednesday: Madhur Jaffrey's "Spicy Baked Chicken" with her "Sweet Yellow Rice" for dinner.
Thursday: "Schwabische Maultashen" for dinner. I think of it as the German cousin to ravioli.
Friday: Baked another loaf of "Buttermilk Honey Bread" and used the rest of the dough with the leftover Maultaschen filling to make ?? Stuffed Hot Rolls? I'm sure there is a name for oddities like this. Leftover lentils and sweet rice for dinner.
Saturday: Homemade hamburger pizza for dinner.
Sunday: Leftovers, leftovers, leftovers!

I would love to research the development/migration of various filled pastas and breads throughout different cultures to trace the similarities, differences and possible relationships from one ethnic cuisine to another. Actually, I think food history in general would be a fun study but discovering and making Maultashen is what has sparked my interest in the first place.

A Toddler's Flattery

Our daughter usually follows "I'm TWO!" with "Mommy is three." I choose to take this as a compliment. Mostly, though, I am amused by the fact that with her little elephant's memory she doesn't remember how old I really am. You see, when I first taught her how old she was she asked for my age as well. I stupidly told her! The truth, naturally. I wonder if she is just toying with me and will one day blurt my true age to a stranger.

Question: Is flattery from a toddler ever conciously delivered?

A sense of direction

I love food from all angles. I think I will try a weekly post about what I've been doing in the kitchen. This is not going to be strictly a food blog (and certainly nothing approaching a food journal - horrors!) but my talking about food is inevitable. You have been warned.

Oh yes, and I'm sure you have a question too. If this blog is "All shades of Purple," why is it pink? I refer you to the first post of this blog.
I am not sure if or where this blog will go, but right now I have two random questions:
1. When our toddler helps me with the laundry, why does she take the used Bounce sheet and say "Celebrate!"?
2. What am I going to do when she gets old enough to realize I eat her chocolate?
